Michelle Obama to young Africans: ‘Yes, we can’

First lady Michelle Obama urged Africa’s upcoming generation to help fight hunger, AIDS, and violence against women, and sought to inspire them with her husband’s 2008 campaign slogan. “If anyone ever tells you that you shouldn’t or you can’t, then I want you to say with one voice –- the voice of a generation –- you tell them: “Yes, we can!” Mrs. Obama said during a speech at a church in Soweto, South Africa.
The audience — a forum of young women leaders — began chanting the “yes, we can” slogan.
Mrs. Obama, on a trip to Botswana as well as South Africa, also challenged her audience, citing the freedom struggles in the country that once knew apartheid.
